Bill Bayless, the son and grandson of steelworkers, was born and raised in West Virginia. The first in his family to go to college, he attended West Virginia University graduating from The College of Business and Economics. While at WVU, he worked as a resident assistant and there began the vision of what would later become American Campus Communities. In 1993, he co-founded American Campus. And in 2004, facilitated the buyout of his venture capital partners and became the first publicly traded student housing company in the nation. Since its IPO, American Campus has been one of the top performing publicly traded real estate companies in America. Over the years American Campus has been named by Forbes as one of “America’s 100 Most Trustworthy Companies” and been voted as one of the best companies to work for in its home State of Texas on three separate occasions. Bill was instrumental in the formation of American Campus Charities Foundation which has raised in excess of $1,000,000 for education and activities for disadvantaged youth.
